The project Unrecorded Cases opens a fictional archive of the sterilizations of Romani women – procedures that were carried out illegally in many places, without their knowledge or consent, and without any official records.
The work responds to the systemic absence of these events in state archives – to the silence preserved in documents, but not in bodies, memory, or collective trauma.
Photographs of female torsos with a black void in place of the abdomen become a visual metaphor for erasure: a place where something was meant to begin, but was violently stopped.
The installation of documents, forms, and medical reports creates the impression of an existing archive. Yet its very nonexistence is the core of the exhibition – what should have been recorded was never recorded.
